A classic holiday destination, Turkey has long been a favourite with Brits seeking cheap sun, sea and sand holidays.

Miles of gorgeous coastline, quality resorts in Bodrum, Antalya and Oludeniz, rich history spanning centuries and fascinating cities such as Istanbul and Ankara – Turkey really does have it all and then some.

Many insurers now offer some level of Covid-19 cover, but this can vary quite a lot between providers. Examples of what may be covered include:

Emergency medical expenses: Including repatriation (getting you home), and additional expenses (for example, a quarantine hotel stay) if you fall ill with Covid-19.
Cancellation: If you test positive (or a close relative passes away due to Covid-19) prior to your holiday and are unable to travel.
Curtailment: If you test positive for Covid-19 pre-departure, upon arrival at your destination, or while on holiday. Additionally, look for a policy that offers curtailment cover in the event a close relative passes away from Covid-19 during your holiday.

Medical treatment abroad can be costly regardless of where you are, and Turkey is no exception. Even routine treatment and procedures can rack up eye-watering costs and, if something serious happens, the last thing you want to worry about is how you’re going to pay for treatment.

Besides medical costs, you can also cover yourself in the event of cancellation and lost baggage with a cheap policy.

Having a comprehensive travel insurance policy will not only give you peace of mind while you are away, it will help you deal with any unwanted incidents that may occur during your holiday.

If you see yourself visiting Turkey more than once this year (or taking more than one holiday to another country), then it might make sense financially to take out an annual policy. However, if you know you will only be going on holiday to Turkey once, and are not planning another trip anywhere else, then a single-trip deal might be a better option. Cheap policies can also be found for families who are travelling together.

Turkey is renowned for its sublime beaches and stunning coastline, but there is much more to this country than your average fly-and-flop holiday.
