Set on the southwest coast of Majorca, Santa Ponsa is a popular resort town that ticks off all the boxes for a classic Spanish beach break, whether you’re holidaying with family, friends or your other half.
If you get the itch to explore the rest of the island – which you really should – a hire car will give you the freedom to do it on your own terms. Simply pack all the essentials and hit the road when the mood suits. Majorca’s beauty and history await.
If you’re not necessarily looking to hire a car for your entire holiday or you haven’t yet figured out where you want to go, it’s probably best to pick up a hire car in Santa Ponsa, which is a 30-minute drive from Palma de Mallorca Airport.
There are no shortage of providers to choose from, including:
Majorca has a decent road network, so it’s easy to get around the whole island in a hire car. From Santa Ponsa, you can easily head up the west coast to explore one of the island’s most scenic areas.
It’s worth bearing in mind that Majorcan streets are often narrow so you may want to choose a smaller hire car. There are lots of hills to navigate, too, which might influence whether you opt for a manual or an automatic (most hire cars are manual).
Speed limits are typically 50km/h (approximately 31 mph) in towns, 90km/h (approximately 56 mph) outside of urban areas and 120km/h (approximately 75 mph) on the highway. There are speed cameras around the island.
If you’re travelling in summer, be aware that Santa Ponsa, like much of Majorca, gets very busy with fellow holidaymakers. Allow extra time for driving at rush hour and watch out for pedestrians and cyclists.
Also be aware that there’s a zero-tolerance approach to driving under the influence.
Any additional requirements: You don’t need an International Driving Permit, just a valid UK driving licence
